Erythritol, a polyol or sugar alcohol, has emerged as a prominent player in the sugar substitute market. Renowned for its natural origin, low-calorie content, and diabetic-friendly attributes, erythritol has gained widespread popularity as a versatile sweetener. This comprehensive trade portal description aims to provide an in-depth understanding of erythritol, encompassing its production, properties, applications, market trends, and potential benefits for businesses engaged in the food and beverage industry.
Production Process: Erythritol is typically produced through the fermentation of glucose or sucrose by certain yeast strains, such as Moniliella pollinis or Trichosporonoides megachiliensis. The process involves multiple stages, including fermentation, separation, and crystallization, resulting in a high-purity erythritol product. This method ensures the final product is non-GMO and free from allergens, making it a preferred choice for health-conscious consumers.
Properties: Erythritol possesses unique chemical and physical properties that contribute to its widespread application in the food and beverage industry. As a sugar alcohol, it is approximately 70% as sweet as sucrose but with only 0.2 calories per gram, making it an ideal option for low-calorie and sugar-free formulations. Moreover, erythritol is heat-stable, non-cariogenic, and does not raise blood sugar levels, making it suitable for individuals with diabetes.
Applications: The versatility of erythritol extends its applications across various industries. In the food and beverage sector, it is commonly used as a sweetener in sugar-free and reduced-calorie products, including beverages, confectionery, baked goods, and dairy products. Its non-hygroscopic nature also makes it suitable for powdered products, such as tabletop sweeteners. Additionally, erythritol's cooling effect enhances its use in sugar-free gum and mints.
Health Benefits: Erythritol offers several health benefits, contributing to its rising demand in the market. Its low-calorie content supports weight management, while its tooth-friendly properties make it a preferred choice for oral care products. As a sugar substitute with a low glycemic index, erythritol is safe for individuals with diabetes, allowing them to enjoy sweetened products without impacting blood sugar levels.
Market Trends: The global erythritol market has witnessed significant growth in recent years, driven by increasing consumer awareness of health and wellness, rising concerns about obesity and diabetes, and the demand for natural sugar alternatives. The food and beverage industry, in particular, has embraced erythritol as a key ingredient in formulating healthier products. Market trends also indicate a surge in the adoption of erythritol by the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
Regulatory Landscape: Erythritol enjoys a favorable regulatory status in many countries, with approvals from major regulatory bodies such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Its status as a Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) ingredient further facilitates its incorporation into a wide range of food and beverage products.
Trade Considerations: Businesses involved in the trade of erythritol should be aware of international trade regulations, quality standards, and labeling requirements. Ensuring compliance with these standards is crucial for successful market entry and establishing trust among consumers. Additionally, understanding the sourcing and production practices of erythritol suppliers is vital for maintaining product quality and integrity.

Feed
Neotame can effectively masking saccharins aftertaste bitter, improve feed palatability. Daily feed consumption of livestock determines the growth, especially young pigs, suckling pig feed intake, affecting livestock entire growth process, thus improving the palatability of feed, especially suckling pig, young pig feed palatability resistance can increase their daily intake, thus speeding up their growth rate. Livestock, especially young pigs, piglets are more sensitive than the human palate.
Drinks
Neotame is of great stability, do not affect products features including drinks flavor, color after batch production, high temperature short time(HTST) sterilization and aseptic operation
Neotames sweetness can be kept in cola carbonated drinks as long as 4-5 months, it can be applied in juice, vegetable juice and low alcoholwine, improve the taste and flavor of drinks, can also be applied in solid powdered beverage like lemon tea and milk powder.Neotame is very stable in these products and its duration is consistent with the life span of drink itself. In the meantime, the content of neotame could replace more than 20% citric acid, and the taste of sour stay the same.
Dairy products
Neotame is suitable for batch production, high temperature short time(HTST) sterilization and aseptic operation, the final products containing neotame maintain stable concentration, especially for yogurt products, which can apply neotame to enhance its flavor.
Neotame do not involve in fermentation, cannot affect the growth of normal fungus, so it can be widely used in dairy products like yogurt and cheese.

Xylitol is probably the best known sugar alcohol (polyol). It looks and tastes like sugar but has lower calories and a much smaller glycemic index.
It is a natural product and the human body produces it (about 5 to 15gm per day) as part of normal metabolism, as do many animals and plants. It was discovered in 1890 by Hermann Emil Fischer, a distinguished German chemist.
It occurs in small quantities in some fruit and vegetables, including strawberries and raspberries. The highest natural concentration being in the bark of birch trees.
It does have a slightly laxative effect and it is not recommended to consume more than 50 gm per day. However higher usage tends to lead to a tolerance over a period of time, the body gets used to it. Individuals have consumed large quantities over prolonged periods with no adverse effects at all.

Acesulfame Potassium—also known as Acesulfame K or just Ace-K-is a calorie-free sweetener used in more than 5,000 food, beverage and pharmaceutical products in over 100 countries around the world. This high-intensity sweetener is approximately 200 times sweeter than sugar. Calorie-free sweeteners, such as Acesulfame Potassium, help health and weight conscious consumers who are looking to reduce unnecessary calories in foods and beverages. Cutting calories does not necessarily mean compromising taste. As the most desired sweet taste is that of sugar, low-calorie and reduced-calorie foods and beverages often contain blends of sweeteners to obtain a more sugar-like sweetness. Thus, Acesulfame Potassium is frequently found in combination with other non-caloric or caloric sweeteners. As a calorie-free sweetener, Acesulfame Potassium does not promote tooth decay and is suitable for people with diabetes. In the past 30 to 40 years, almost 100 studies have been conducted on the safety of Acesulfame Potassium. They have consistently shown that this sweetener is safe and suitable for human consumption. Discovered in 1967 by Hoechst scientists in Frankfurt, Germany, it has been used in food and beverages since 1983 and is approved in more than 100 countries around the world.
